What is Second Life (SL)?
Second Life is a massively multi-user 3D virtual world. SL's world is created largely by users. It is free for anyone to access, and is available in Windows, Mac, and Linux. To get started, go to http://secondlife.com/PRT Simulation in SL
We are currently working on a Personal Rapid Transit simulation in Second Life. It is modeled after Irvine based company Unimodal's version of a PRT system called SkyTran. We have created a sample track with 1 station and 3 vehicles to study the logical software control and investigate usability problems of the system.Visit and Ride!
After installing Second Life, and passing the mandatory tutorials in Orientation Island (ugh!), you can visit us by clicking either link: Assuming the system is running, and most of the time it is, you can ride one of the pods by yourself!- Right-click the pod at the front, choose Sit
- Left-click the pod, wait a few seconds, and it should go. Try the mouselook view, so you can immerse yourself in the ride.
- You can leave the ride at any time, by pressing the "Stand up" button.
